Gingerbread House!!!

Wow! Where did November go? We have been busy in the Jobe house. Got the Christmas trees put up. Got pictures for Christmas cards. Oh, and almost burnt the kitchen down. Yes, I had a grease fire in the kitchen a couple of weeks ago, so we have been doing a little cleaning and painting. WHEW! Now I'm ready for CHRISTMAS! So tonight we made a gingerbread house. The kids had a ball. I think they enjoyed eating the candy more than anything:) Hope you all are having fun getting ready for the holidays!

Happy Halloween Everyone! We have had an interesting day. John Mark woke up running fever and felt bad all day. He would get up and say, "I feel better, can I go trick or treating?", and walk across the room and lie back down. Finally about 5:00 I gave him Tylenol and he perked up enough to walk down the street and back. I think they had more fun handing out candy than trick or treating. They would fight over whose turn it was to answer the door. I was just glad when we ran out of candy and could turn off the light:)

John Mark started tennis lessons back in the spring and loves it. I can't believe how far they have come in such a short time. I think I better brush up or he is going to be able to beat me!

You Never Mentioned Him to Me

Last weekend we had lectureships at church with 3 different men taking turns preaching. They were all assigned songs to preach on. Tim Norman was assigned the song You Never Mentioned Him to Me. This song has always "haunted" me. Every time I have ever sung it I think about all the people I come in contact with that don't know our Savior and ways I can reach out to them. Tim did a super job with the lesson so I want to share some of my notes.

Luke 19:10: 10:2

You Never Mentioned Him to Me

When in the better land before the bar we stand, how deeply grieved our souls may be; if any lost one there should cry in deep despair, "You never mentioned Him to me."

O let us spread the word where'er it may be heard, help groping souls the light to see, that yonder none may say, "You showed me not the way, you never mentioned Him to me."

A few sweet words may guide a lost one to His side, or turn sad eyes on Calvary, so work as days go by, that yonder none may cry, "You never mentioned Him to me."

Chorus: "You never mentioned Him to me, you helped me not the light to see; you met me day by day and knew I was astray, yet never mentioned Him to me."

ANALYSIS OF KEY WORDS AND PHRASES:

1. When in the better land before the bar we stand. Eternity vs. time, not heaven vs. earth Revelation 20: 11-15. (I imagine waiting in line on judgment day and seeing my friends before me)

2. How deeply grieved our souls my be; if any lost one there should cry in deep despair, "You never mentioned Him to me." Why would we be deeply grieved? Missed opportunities, the anticipation of losing our own soul. Acts 20:26-27. (We could lose our soul for not doing what Jesus did --seeking to save the lost.)

3. You met me day by day and knew I was astray, yet never mentioned Him to me. (The ones we see everyday, lost but we say nothing)

4. O let us spread the word where'er it may be heard. (I think of all the ways and opportunities we have to spread the word)

5. Help groping souls the light to see. . .lost. . .astray. . .sad. (the world needs what I have)

6. A few sweet words may guide a lost one to His side, or turn sad eyes on Calvary. (Just saying something nice to the lady in front of me at the grocery store)

7. So work as days go by, that yonder none my cry, "You never mentioned Him to me." (I think this is what gets me the most, seeing my friends say this to me on the day of judgement)

APPLICATIONS:

1. There are three motivations--fear, duty, love. Lunch room analogy. There is an important place for each in a Christian's life, but the succeeding should progressively preempt the preceding. 2 Cor 5:11A; Luke 17:10; 1 John 4:18. The songs motivation is fear. Evangelism is much more that a duty--its a privilege we should exercise because our hearts overflow with love for Jesus and other people. 1 Cor. 16:14; 13:3
2. The better land. Earthly life is a shadow, the substance of which is the life to come. consider life's highs and lows. Truly if we miss heaven, we've missed it all. We need to understand now what we'll finally understand then, i.e. what's true and what's truly important. This world is not our home, we're just passing through.
3. Deeply grieved. Imagine watching someone we met day by day and knew was astray being sentenced to hell; imagine losing our own soul. Let's be deeply grieved now so we won't be deeply grieved then. Romans 10:1; 9:1-3; 2 Corinthians 7:8-11 How many of us tried to save a soul last week?
4. Why don't we mention Him to them?
A. We don't think about it. Acts 8:4
B. We don't really believe that people are lost without Christ.
C. We're too busy. The most important thing is to keep the most important thing the most important thing!
D. We are ashamed, we fear rejection by men. Matt 10:32-33
E. We make excuses.
1. Prospects are everywhere. "You met me day by day and knew I was astray." Luke 10:2. We don't see prospects because we aren't looking for prospects. Prospects, not suspects.
2. We can all say a few words.
3. It will do good. 1 Cor. 3:5-7
F. We aren't sold on our product. We've got what the world needs. there is light, a way. John 10:10 We need to enjoy it and then we'll share it! John 7:38-39

6. Today is the day of salvation, tomorrow may be too late. 1 Corinthians 6:2B

RACE FOR THE CURE!!!

Saturday I ran the race for the cure with my cousins and friends from home. This was the first race I have run in a LONGGGGGG time. My goal was to finish the 5K in under 30 min. I did it in 28 something, I was soooo excited:) I started out running with Roan but she took off and left me and finished with great time, 26 something. I will have to practice a little more to keep up with her! This was Lynn's first race. Her goal was to finish in under 40 and she finished in 35:46. Way to go Lynn!!!

I was so excited to have our friends Ryan and Heidi come visit us from Atlanta last weekend. We had a ball and got to do some fun tourist stuff. We picked them up at the airport in Memphis and went to eat at the Rendezvous downtown. Then we stopped by the Peabody to check out the ducks and look around. Saturday we went shopping and to a ballgame. And then Monday I got to do something I have never done. We went to Graceland!!! It was such a great experience!

Last week I celebrated my birthday! I had the most wonderful day. I got to go eat with a lot of my new friends. My friend Melissa's birthday is 3 days before mine so she made us a birthday cake.

It was so good!

Mark and the kids got me a new running watch (I don't know what I ever did without it), and new running shoes!

That night when I got home they had me a triple chocolate birthday cake with a whole bunch of candles. Can you say---call the fire department???

Womens Retreat in Memphis

A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend a women's retreat in Olive Branch with some of the girls from church and meet my mom and sisters and some other great friends and family.

The theme of the retreat was "Seasons of a Woman's Life," and it was terrific! Each session was an analogy of the seasons and how each is such an important time in our lives as Christian women: spring being a time of discovery 1 Tim. 4:12, summer a time of learning Titus 2:4-5, Fall being faith in action Proverbs 31:10-31 and winter a season of influence and reflection Titus 2:3. The speakers were awesome and so full of enthusiasm, wisdom and encouragement!

I was so excited to see my friends Lynn and Roan. I didn't know they were coming. We had so much fun!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY KATE!!

We celebrated Mary Kate's 3rd birthday at the petting zoo on campus were Mark teaches. The kids had a ball. They had ducks, chickens, a deer, piglets, a pony, cow, and all kinds of animals. Mary Kate's favorite was the deer. She got some wonderful presents from her friends and the cake was so cute and very yummy!

WHEW! School has started and it is double hostess month for Southern Living at HOME so we have been busy!!!! John Mark started Kindergarten last Monday and loves it! I made it better than I thought I would. Mary Kate will start pre-school Tuesday. She is so excited. They both have friends in their classes, so that helps. We have met so many wonderful people since we have been here. We are so blessed!

When school got out in May the Jobe Family headed to Disney World by way of the beach. Some friends of ours have a condo in Pensacola Beach so we stopped there for a few days first. As you can tell the kids loved the beach and the weather was wonderful!
